KOKUM / cfd;'n (Garnicia Indica) is a tropical fruit grown in the western ghats of Maharashtra and Kerala. Since ancient times it has been known for its medicinal benefits. It is a natural body coolant (pitta nashak). It helps in relieving acidity and chestburn. It is used in various Maharashtrian and South Indian cuisines because of its subtle tanginess. Solkadhi and kokum sharbat are few known beverages made from kokum extract.
